Hey guys,
Okay so my mom and I have binge-watched all of The Crown over the last couple of weeks and I’m obsessed. I, now, understand what everyone has been going on about the last couple of years.

Firstly, I love Princess Anne, Erin Doherty’s performance is excellent, and the dry deliverance of her lines had me in stitches. It was Princess Anne’s birthday on the 15th (another Leo queen, yes) and ITV released a documentary that she partook in for her 70th birthday and it showcased how funny and no-nonsense she is. It also had interviews with her husband and kids, and she just seems like a regular aunty doing her ordinary ole job, it’s adorable. I mean an aunty that lives on a large estate.

Also this week, they announced that Jonathan Pryce will be playing Prince Phillip and Elizabeth Debecki will be playing Princess Diana in seasons 5 & 6 of The Crown. I really love the Debecki casting, and I think she has that gentle but strong face that the real Diana did. I’m not such a fan of the Pryce casting though, and I really wished they had kept Charles Dance to play the older Phillip. Also, I hope they cast Ben Whishaw as Prince Charles.
So, as promised, here is my list of the hottest guys in The Crown:
Prince Phillip in season 3 (Tobias Menzies)
I didn’t warm to Matt Smith’s Prince Phillip as much as everyone else did, but I really like Tobias Menzies’ version. I think he looks more like the real Phillip. He was the Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones, and even though I didn’t get further than season 1 of Outlander, I could clearly see how good he is at playing villainous roles too. Perfect for Phillip.

Lord Mountbatten in season 1 and 2 (Greg Wise)
Okay, so now this was my favourite. I loved Greg Wise as Mr Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility and obv as Mr Emma Thompson, but he was so hot as Lord Mountbatten. Like I don’t understand why his wife was so cold towards him, I mean, he looks like this. I’ve also taken some time to google the real Lord Mountbatten, and he was good looking too so -

Anthony Eden (Jeremy Northam)
I was very shocked to see that this was Jeremy Northam. I remember the actor as a hottie from the 90s and now he is old? what? how does time even work? But he always played the problematic prime minister with a slight smirk and I appreciated that. Also everyone knows I love Mr Knightley in Emma, and whoever plays him, and Jeremy Northam played him in the 90s Gwyneth Paltrow version, so he has to remain on the list.

Tony Armstrong-Jones in season 2 (Matthew Goode)
Sjoe. Where to even begin with this one. Matthew Goode is the type of actor that I don’t ever expect to be attracted to and then he swaggers in and says something in his deep voice and I am immediately putty. He did it in The Good Wife (almost made me forget about Will Gardner for a sec), he did it in Downton Abbey (almost made me forget about Matthew Crawley). He is the perfect second man when our female character has already lost the loves of their lives early, and you know what, he’s okay with that. The ‘character’ of Tony was so rebellious and sexy, that the casting agents knew what they were doing with this one. And he was the only character who got sex scenes. Love this for him.

Graham Sutherland (Stephen Dillane)
Quit judging. This one-hit-wonder was in one episode as the painter who painted Winston Churchill’s portrait. This addition to the list is understandable when you learn that I had a big crush on Stannis Baratheon in Game of Thrones, give me a tall, self-righteous king any day. And he was so statuesque and subtle while playing Graham Sutherland and he smiled more. I love him so much.

John Armstrong (Colin Morgan)
Another one-hit-wonder, Colin Morgan played the journalist John Armstrong in season 3. An avid critic of the royal family, he changes his mind (or alters it) when he meets Prince Phillip’s mom, Princess Alice and learns about all she went through. I haven’t seen Merlin, but I’ve seen enough pics and gifs to know that he wasn’t this hot in there (don’t argue with me, I have seen pics). And I heard that people wanted to start a trend of calling him Hot Journalist, after Fleabag’s Hot Priest, but it didn’t quite catch on. I think it’s harder for people to imagine a hot journalist than it is to imagine a hot priest.

that’s it. holler at me in the comments if you want to fight or with your own personal choices for the hottest guys in the crown!
other things that are on my mind this week:
I’m a bit late to the party but I’ve been listening to a lot of Rina Sawayama this week and I adore the good quality pop:
I also watched The Farewell this week, and boy did I cry for this story of the love between a grandmother and a granddaughter. My heart. If you haven’t seen this yet, please put it on your to-watch list.
crushing on:
This week on the podcast, I was joined by my ole buddy from Cosmopolitan, Noxolo Mafu, who is currently the Fashion and Beauty Editor at Expresso Morning Show. We chatted about whether Cosmo was like The Bold Type (for her it was, for me it wasn’t), Beyonce’s short film Black is King, and the Michaela Coel masterpiece, I May Destroy You. Check it here.
