Hey everyone,
Welcome to issue 1 of Crushing On Magazine.
Recently I accompanied my father to visit our local pharmacy. I hadn’t been there in a while, because ever since I was booted off my parents’ medical aid, I have preferred the anonymity and efficiency of Dis-Chem and Clicks when getting meds.
So, naturally, the pharmacist hadn’t seen me in a while and asked me a lot of random questions like if I moved to Joburg and where I am staying now. My dad replied that I was back at home with them, referring to the fact that I moved back in with my parents during the pandemic. However, the next time my dad went to the pharmacist, he asked if I was divorced. And I was shook. I have spent so long defending why I was still unmarried that I didn’t even realise that I had reached divorce-age. Like I haven’t even been on the carousel once, and people are already assuming I’m gearing up for my next ride.
But it seems like divorce is in the air. X-Men actor Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furniss recently announced that they are splitting after being married for 27 years. 27 years. That’s like Zendaya’s entire lifespan. The two are currently going through the messy affair of dividing up their assets.
Talking about messy, the uncoupling of singer Joe Jonas and Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner has taken a turn. PEOPLE reported that the actor has sued Jonas and requested that their two children be returned to her after the singer ‘wrongfully retained’ them.
Also, actor and model Bijou Phillips filed for divorce from actor Danny Masterson after he was sentenced to jail for 30 years for rape and sexual assault. I mean, he had it coming.
Lastly, this week actor Teyana Taylor and basketball player Iman Shumpert announced that they were separated after 7 years of marriage and 12 years together. This came after rumours that Iman was cheating on Teyana. Teyana claims that they have been separated for a while. Noting in her Instagram post, “To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children.”
Carry on reading to check out my recommendations, what you should know in entertainment, fashion, beauty and other news, as well as who I have picked for my celeb crush of the week.

Recs:
Series: Only Murders In the Building S3 - Honestly one of my favourite shows right now. It combines a great mystery with a hilarious cast of characters. This season has the trio (played by Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short) investigating the murder of actor Ben Glenroy (played by Paul Rudd) who died while starring in Oliver’s play with Charles. It also stars the amazing Meryl Streep. You can watch it on Disney+.
Film: Cha Cha Real Smooth - This film I watched quite randomly and I absolutely adored it. It tells the story of a 22-year-old, Andrew who is fresh out of college and is hired to host bat mitzvah parties for his brother’s friends. At a party, he meets single mom Domino and her daughter Lola and becomes intertwined in their lives. You can watch it on Apple TV+.
