Hey everyone,
A couple of weeks ago, I saw someone on Twitter asking for podcast recommendations. And let it be known, that I have been a fan of podcasts for years so naturally, I’m like ‘oh yes, new recs’.

But then I saw someone’s response where they were just plugging their own podcast, singing about their accomplishments and talking shit other SA podcasts. And I wasn’t even offended because I have a podcast, I mean my podcast is new, it’s still a work in progress. I was offended because I have been listening to so many great SA podcasts, that this person has clearly not put in the work.
And I realised there might be many more people who aren’t aware of the amazing content South Africans are putting out especially not well-known figures. So for my tiny audience, I thought I would highlight some of my faves and I’m always looking for more recommendations so holler at me in the comments with some of your faves.
here are some you should check out:
What’s the Quarantee?
Hosted by Tarryn Cardre, this podcast discusses everything from reality TV to really important sociological issues in South Africa. Some of my favourite episodes were the ones on Coloured Identity with Ling Shepherd and her interview with Patric Tariq Mellet. Listen to the show here.
Heroine Cheek
This old fave is hosted by two friends - Kenya and Zee - as they discuss everything from pop culture to dating to football. It’s always a fun conversation and so interesting. Listen to the show here.
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Mgowo
This one is popular but I really enjoy it. It honestly feels like you are listening to a couple of friends chatting about what’s on their mind as they adult. So fun, so interesting. Listen to the show here.
Her Bold Story
Hosted by Inga Davids, this podcast features monthly interviews with dynamic women who are winning in their various industries. It was just launched yesterday, so be one of the first to jump on this bandwagon. Listen to the show here.
other things that are on my mind this week:
Be Kind, Rewind - we spoke about his on this week’s podcast, but this is currently my favourite YouTube Channel. It tells the story of Hollywood and its’ history and relation to the Oscars so well.
I recently watched the teen film, Chemical Hearts on Amazon Prime. It’s the perfect bit of teen angst and stars Lili Reinhart (Betty from Riverdale) in the lead role, and she’s really really good. You can read my review of it on Channel24.
crushing on:
This week on the podcast I spoke to Fanie Buys. Fanie is an artist who has created many amazing pieces of art including work inspired by Princess Diana, Grace Kelly, Emma Stone and Naomi Campbell. He is just the funniest human and we spoke about the legacy of the royal family, Australian cinema and my love for Kristin Scott Thomas. Listen to it here.
